Easy Way to Beat Ent in Remnant
You'll know you're almost done with the first area of Remnant: From The Ashes when you face The Ent or Singe. Depending on your campaign roll, you will get either two of these bosses as your final Earth boss fight. The Ent is a big, root-infected tree in a large and closed-off arena. He stays relatively far away from you and high above your normal range of fire, making it difficult to use mods and melee damage against him. Luckily, with The Ent, you won't want to use melee attacks.
Because he's so far away, most of his attacks consist of spawning explosive enemies and explosive root rot your way. Dodging has never been more important. While all that arena space seems inviting, things quickly become too chaotic to handle during this fight. But with a couple of juke moves and oilskin tonics, you should be good to go.
10 You Can Dodge Toward The Wave Attack
When you first enter the boss fight The Ent will pound the ground with his fists, sending a shock wave in your direction. Most players will try to dodge away from it, but you actually have invincibility dodging in Remnant: From The Ashes. This means that you can dodge roll toward enemies and incoming attacks and not take any damage.
If the attack you're dodging into lasts longer, you'll want to double dodge into it instead of doing the roll once. Dodging into attacks allows you to reposition yourself behind enemies and take free back shots. With The Ent, this doesn't mean rolling up behind him, but there's no need to panic and bump into walls when you can dodge straight into the attack freely.
9 Rattleweed Is Your Friend
Rattleweed is a weapon mod you receive from defeating one of the first randomized bosses on Earth, known as Shroud. When you begin your Earth campaign you either get the Shroud or Gorefist on your first dungeon run. Shroud drops you the material Shadewood to craft Rattleweed back at Ward 13. This weapon mod launches and spawns a strange-looking plant that will attract any and all enemies that are not mini-bosses or full bosses.
Smaller enemies will be preoccupied with the Rattleweed, allowing you to either kill them quickly without having to take any damage or to focus on the boss and deal with the adds later. During The Ent boss fight, when he unleashes hollows and rot warts (a.k.a round dudes and exploding brains), you'll find yourself down in seconds. With Rattleweed, all those extra adds will focus on your weapon mod and you can take the time to heal and then kill them before continuing on with the boss.
8 Dodge Four Times During Explosions
There's a continuous phase in this boss fight where The Ent will kneel down, open his shoulder blades, and unleash Hell. These are like rot warts being hurled directly for your head. This is the most chaotic part of the fight, where adds can also start rushing you while this is happening.
The best thing to remember here is that you need to practice dodging four times and then before you know it, it will be over. The Ent launches three explosions toward you at the same speed and timing. The fourth one will be delayed. Once you have these four dodges down, you should be good to go. The most important thing during this section is to dodge, not to try and kill.
7 The Ents Weak Spots
The Ent's weak spots are very hard to reach. Any part of him is hard to reach, really. Between his shoulder blades seems to be an effective weak spot for The Ent. The area appears to be the same spot where he opens himself up and launches explosions.
Using any long-ranged weapon, you should be able to hit this spot, especially if you have a teammate distracting the boss so you can get a better view. Though he does have weak spots, it's not entirely necessary to hit these to defeat him. He's not a hard boss to kill. The problem lies within the explosions and adds more than getting his weak spots down.
6 The Alternative Attack And Loot Drop
Some bosses in Remnant: From The Ashes have alternative fights or just alternative loot drops. Alternative fights will affect the bosses' attacks, making them use new tactics by crippling them in some way or triggering an event. Alternative loot drops happen when you just injure the boss in a special way but don't trigger new attacks.
The Ent can become crippled if you aim for his legs. His legs come off and he begins crawling toward you and swinging with his arms. Finishing him off this way rewards you with the materials for the Petrified Maul, a melee weapon, rather than Sporebloom, a shotgun.
5 Use Ranged Weapons Only
There's simply nothing you can do with a shotgun and a beam rifle here, boys. The Ent is so tall and there are so many explosions and areas of effect that you need to stay far away from him at all times, hands inside the vehicle.
The sniper rifle will do you wonders here since it has the longest range available. The next best things are the hunting rifle, the Devastator, Particle Accelerator, Ruin, and Eye of Storm long guns. For the adds, you're free to use whatever you like. Preferably something that makes it quick, like the repeater pistol, submachine gun, or Spitfire.
4 Equip Mender's Charm For Team Survival
If you're taking this boss on with friends rather than foes, someone should equip Mender's Charm and keep watch of everyone's health. If everyone is having an equally hard time, this charm is a lifesaver.
Mender's Charm allows the wearer to heal everyone in their party to full health including themselves, in one single click. The dragon heart you consume heals you and your teammates. If you see both of your teammates are about to die or they can't heal because they are dodging away and you have hearts to spare, heal yourself. Help yourself to help them.
3 Utilize The Size Of The Arena
Everything is chaotic. Explosions everywhere. It's hard to get your bearings, but there is space. It's easy to make space between you and The Ent when he isn't launching explosives at you. Keeping your distance from him allows you to focus on any incoming adds and stay far away from his attack range for a short while.
The best way to do this is if you have other teammates taking the bait. While The Ent is slowly marching towards them, you can run miles away and take a breather.
2 Don't Worry About Special Damage, Just Shoot
You may have a favorite weapon that does the big explosion and colors and cool damage, but it's pointless here. Trying to work in extra special damage when fighting The Ent is a waste of time and doesn't do a lot. These special attacks and attached weapon mods can barely reach The Ent due to how tall and far he is. Because of this, you're better off resorting to raw damage.
1 Keep Some Oilskin Tonic At The Ready
Each world in Remnant: From The Ashes has a negative status effect and a potion to mend it. Earth enemies will infect you with root rot and the only cure is oilskin tonics. These can be found by looting through dungeons and around the normal Earth maps. Oilskin tonics are also sold by Reggie in Ward 13. If you haven't needed to use them yet, you will now. If you let your root rot get worse, you'll become infected.
A full infection of root rot means your character will abruptly cough at random times until you drink a tonic or sit by a campfire. This cough is deadly because it cancels movement. Reloading? Forget it. Dodging? Nah. Be sure to stock up on some oilskin tonics before you take on The Ent.
